MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION TIPS
PREPARING FOR YOUR MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION
Prepare 2 contrasting songs (one up-tempo, one ballad) of your choice, from memory with sheet music in the correct key. Music should be marked clearly and around 32 bars in length. Songs may vary in style from Music Theatre, Contemporary covers – Pop, Rock, R&B, Jazz or original material.
If you are a singer/song-writer we encourage you to perform at least one of your originals.
Backing tracks that you have produced specifically for yourself are permitted.
Please choose a short 1-2 minute monologue (preferably from a play), but could also be a poem or original work.
No preparation is required for this part of your audition. You will be asked to participate in a group movement/dance workshop on your audition day. No previous dance training is required. Please bring comfortable clothes/footwear, and a willingness to have fun and give it your best shot.
ON THE DAY
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your acting audition – be aware, there is only street parking available.
You are required to choose ONE short 1-2 minute monologue. Applicants are to perform TWO contrasting songs (approximately 32 bars in length) of their choice. If you are a singer/songwriter we encourage you to perform at least one of your originals. Please bring sheet music or a backing track (please no a cappella).
Applicants will be asked to participate in a movement/dance call on the day – no preparation is required for this part of your audition. Make sure you bring appropriate clothing and footwear for your movement call (you might want to change for your individual audition), water, and your best attitude for what will be a fun and positive experience.
Due to time constraints, we may not require you to complete all of your audition material.

The Sydney Actors School and Talent Development Project Musical Theatre course maintains a rigorous schedule, 3 days per week over a year. In the interview section of the audition process, you will be required to disclose any existing physical or mental health conditions which may possibly impact or effect your progression through the course.

- Information disclosed remains private and confidential between the applicant, Sydney Actors School Director of Education, TDP Course Coordinators and Sydney Actors School Student Services Officer, and it serves purely to assist in individual student management and duty of care.
AFTER THE AUDITION
Following your audition you will be contacted via email/phone with your audition result.
