Composer: Lyrics Fred Ebb Music John Kander
Production/Performer History: Broadway 2010 (Joshua Henry), London 2014 (Kyle Scatliffe)
Context: Haywood and the boys await their execution and dream of home.
Choice: Like Parade, Scottsboro Boys tells the story of crime America’s South. This time it is 1931 Memphis and the 9 boys are a group of African Americans accused of rape by two white prostitutes, in order to spare themselves. This is final show of the legendary Kander and Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman) and is as confronting and inspiring as their earlier work. Unfortunately the original production was overshadowed by a little show called Book of Mormon.
